Life expectancy questionable (or I just got a bad one) factory repairs failed to correct
By B. Rodgers
See bottom for update on life. - I'll leave the original review, but to clarify, I would no longer buy this amp again, and will likely go with what I have in my other car - JL 300/4v2 if the amp starts triggering protect mode again. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that an amp rated at 190w x2 @ 4ohms be capable of a full-range signal to a pair of 4-ohm speakers, so with or without the high-pass filter it shouldn't be going into protect mode. If you get one that isn't broken, it's a great amp in terms of sound quality, but at this level of reliability, it's only worth two stars right now.--- Original review ---I've got this amp powering a pair of (4 ohm) Image Dynamics CTX-65CS's. On very few rock songs with very low bass, it was triggering the protect mode. The amp is rated as 2-ohm stable, so there should not be a problem at all, but without setting the high-pass filter to filter out the low signal. Once that was set properly, it's been flawless.Given the small size, efficiency and clarity, I would purchase it again, but I wouldn't expect it to be a good choice for running a pair of 3-ways, since they would use the full range, and likely trigger the protect mode.Update: More and more songs kept triggering protect mode, and eventually, it wouldn't stay on for more than half a second. Sent in for repair/replacement. When it was brand-new, it was a fantastic amp, I'm hoping the new one isn't a dud.Post-repair update: About two seeks after sending it in, the amp is back. The amp still goes into protect mode like when it was new. I've resorted to turning the gain down completely on the amp, and the crossover is set to about 55hz. It sounds better, but isn't really any louder than the factory stereo was now. If it degrades as it did prior to the repair, I'll go with a different brand amp.
