fairly impressive little amp.
By great goodie
once you get past its quirks, very nice!finding larger but low power requirement speakers can be a challenge, using a pair of 5" 10w two-way speakers forward and an 8" 15w as a sub, it does really well. if I can find a pair of 10w 8-ohm 8" woofers to wire parallel, it oughtta hit even nicer. this is a guess, this amp wants to see 12.5v and 4 amps minimal for it to behave. run on battery is nice, some power supplies will make it hum (theres filters available for that). low voltage and current can cause "cap bumping" thump sounds, was annoying until solved and these amps come without any instructions or warnings (minus 1 point).when this amp gets lower voltage, sub channel goes wack.forward channels ok after sub turned off or unplugged, something that'd been nice to know about beforehand..connected its forward 2 channels to my PLMR82's in my boat, PYLE(lmao) rates those "300 WATTS PEAK POWER" not saying if its induvidually or as a pair. I'd say its fair to rate them for 30 watts each, because my old sony 50x2 watt amp (exm502) was threatening to shred em. this little Lepai powered them nicely enough, almost! it's easily twice the power of PYLE's PLMRMP1A "marine amp" (how is 4 watts per channel magically "FOH-HUNNA"?).. but dont worry I'm sure PYLE (of what ya say?) will get wind of these Lepai's and start putting their own label on more of em so they can double the price and claim to be great. I have no doubts PYLE would call this amp at least 800 watts max!ok.. back to this Lepai 838, connected to the 8's in the boat and trying to abuse this little amp, fully cranked the distortion wasnt horrendous at all, I can only guess it was pushing about 8-9 watts. I plugged in my little FiiO headphone amp, NOW we're making it distort a bunch.. my point? the PLMRMP1A was completely worthless without the AAA battery powered headphone pre-amp, when it claimed to be mp3 player compatible? this Lepai sure didnt need it inline to its input, its just about correct for "mp3 player compatible". btw, the sony exm502 also DID need the headphone booster to wake up a little, mp3 output IS typically a bit low.still waiting on a Lepai 808 to play with, the 808 might become "the boat amp". the 838's forward channels to the pair of PLMR82's was darn good-n-loud (floating boombox?). the sony can pull 10+ amps, where the Lepai might pull a third of that, is a real consideration when the boat doesnt have a charging system onboard..the 808 has the same treble-bass-volume controls, and a simple pushbutton bass-boost for lower volume levels.inexpensive as these Lepai are, I'm gonna play!

Good Job with 2X100W (PMPO) Pioneer Speakers
By RL
Does a good job with 100 W ( PMPO) Pioneer Bookshelf Speakers. Have not tried with any sub woofers yet.Output is better only when using MP3 input ( in front). If using LR input @ back, seems like you need a pre amp.

Meh.
By Frank Graetz
It works alright just for a speaker amp, but don't expect anything from the .1 part of the amp. I heard the horror story's about the subwoofer output going nuts at low amps, i am here to put that to rest. if you use the subwoofer output at any amperage, it goes nuts. The sub out does not work period. However, the speaker out works alright. there is some crackling, and there is no bass no matter how much you turn the nob, but its 2 star out of 5. i used this in a mini electric jeep for little kids to drive in. i took the body and put it on a small frame i welded together and stuck a 33cc 2 stroke scooter engine in it and i cruised around town. i put a small board behind the plastic seats with a pair of 4x10's and it went loud enough to go chill by the skate park and play music with other people but the sound quality was not really there. the sound quality was about 5 out of 10. The watt ratings seemed true ish. if you do the math, 12volt * 2 amp = 24 watts. but its a Chinese amp so i would say around 15-20 ish. its doing alright so far, i'll keep you updated if anything goes down.
